How To Prepare Healthy Snacks For Children
Looking For An Alternative To Sweets?
Are you interested in recipes that give your children a healthy treat? How about homemade gummy bears? No dyes, preservatives and no added sugar. Making them is not complicated at all and will not take you much time at all.
Did you know that one bag of gummy candies can contain up to 40 sugar cubes? It’s been said that jelly based sweets are healthy for the body, that they have a positive effect on the joints and, in general, that children actually thrive on them because they contain vitamins. But... Consuming a large number of purchased jelly candies does not bring any positive effects to the body. Gummy bears do not contain any minerals or vitamins and the amount of collagen is negligible. They have almost no effect on the quality of joints and cartilage. The body does not benefit from huge amounts of sugars, as these can lead to obesity and heart and blood vessel problems. The only advantage is that gummy bears do not contain any fat.

Whether it's gummy bears, ice cream or anything else, it is always best to make these delicacies at home in a healthier version. Here are some of our favourite recipes.
Homemade Gummy Bears
Ingredients: 200ml of freshly squeezed juice from any fruit, gelatin or vegetarian agar and oil to erase molds, coconut to help with tipping and to add a shine to the sweets, a few drops of lemon juice, vanilla extract or various other types of syrup. You can also add finely chopped fruit.
Instructions: Pour the juice into a small pot, add about 4 sachets of gelatin and slowly heat the mixture. When all the ingredients are combined and the gelatin has completely dissolved, pour the mixture into pre-made molds and let it harden. The best options are soft silicone molds, which will be much easier to tip the sweets out of. You can also pour the warm mixture into a plastic box. After they’ve solidified, simply tip the jelly out and cut it into smaller cubes. You can also cut out various shapes with the help of some cutters. There are no limits to your creativity. Store the finished sweets in a cool place and in an airtight container. Properly stored, they can last you up to three weeks.
Homemade Ice Cream
Ingredients: 150 ml of double cream, 50g of unrefined sugar, 100g of quality chocolate, 285 ml of whole milk, 30 g cocoa
Instructions: Bring the milk and sugar to a boil and then mix the broken chocolate and sifted cocoa into pieces. Heat and mix until the chocolate has completely dissolved. While the base cools, add and then whisk the cream and mix it together carefully. Pour the ice cream into a suitable container and freeze. Make sure to mix it several times during the freezing process. This should take around 5 hours depending on the size.
Crispy Carrot Cookies
Ingredients: 200g of plain spelled flour, 50g of oil, 60g of water, 80g of finely grated carrots, 1 egg, a pinch of salt, ground cumin, your favourite herbs, grated gouda and some parmesan.
Instructions: Mix all of the ingredients together. If the dough is sticky (this depends a lot on how juicy the carrots are), more flour can be added. Do be careful, the more flour you put, the more you have to add to the "taste", i.e. a little more salt and other seasoning. Bake in the oven heated at 180C for about 30 minutes.
Ingredients: ½ ripe avocado (80 g), 2 eggs, 2 tablespoons ground cashews (50 g), ½ cup of coconut milk (150 g), coconut oil for frying
You can also add cinnamon, apple or banana pieces, or cocoa to the pancakes
Instructions: Mix all ingredients together until you have smooth mixture. Heat a non stick pan, lightly coat the surface with coconut oil or ghee and then fry the pancakes. Two leveled spoons of "dough" should be enough for one pancake. Flip the pancakes when the top side starts to solidify and the bottom side is golden brown. Then, spread the finished pancakes with walnut butter and line with a few pieces of fresh strawberry. Put a spoonful of sour cream or Greek yoghurt on top. Other fruits and a sprinkling of ground or chopped nuts also work well
Homemade Quark Snack
Ingredients: 1 portion of double cream, cottage cheese, fruit of your choice, sugar cane if necessary
Instructions: Mix the cream, cottage cheese and fruit. Depending on how sweet the fruit is and what your children like and are used to, it is possible to sweeten it with quality cane sugar. Divide the snack into bowls and store in the fridge.
